Lentil Soup Calories per Cup: Ingredients and Portions

·

Lentil soup has no single calorie value per cup. Count the cooked lentils, added fats and other ingredients, then divide by the finished soup yield.

A cup describes volume, not a fixed recipe

Cooked unsalted lentils provide 116 kcal per 100 g in the USDA record used here. The table models lentils and oil only; water adds no energy, while stock, vegetables, cream and other ingredients must be added. These are not complete soup nutrition facts.

For your recipe, total the ingredient calories and weigh the finished soup. A 300 g serving from a 1,200 g pot is one quarter of the pot calories. To report per cup, measure and weigh one level US cup of your finished soup; do not assume all soups weigh the same.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a generic lentil soup entry?

Yes, for an estimate when the recipe is unknown. Pick one that resembles the dish; avoid treating a creamy restaurant soup as plain boiled lentils.

Does adding water reduce the calories?

It reduces calories per equal weight or volume, but does not remove calories from the pot. Eating the whole pot still gives the original ingredient total.
