Nutrition Label Maker: Data, Serving Sizes and a Blank-Label Checklist
·
A nutrition label maker formats supplied nutrition data; it cannot make unreliable inputs accurate or guarantee a compliant US label. Start with ingredients, quantities, finished yield and the applicable serving rules. A blank Nutrition Facts template is only a layout, not verified nutrition information or FDA approval.
Blank nutrition label: information to prepare
| Field or decision | Data required | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Servings per container | Package quantity and appropriate serving basis | Assuming the whole package is one serving |
| Serving size | Applicable measure and metric amount | Choosing an arbitrary marketing portion |
| Calories and nutrients | Reliable data on the finished portion basis | Ignoring cooking yield or ingredient changes |
| Daily Values | Current applicable reference values and rules | Treating %DV as a personal target |
| Ingredients and allergens | Actual formulation and separate labeling requirements | Assuming a Nutrition Facts panel covers the whole package |
Build the nutrition data before formatting the chart
Record ingredient amounts and reliable nutrient values, then account for the finished recipe yield. Water loss can change nutrients per 100 g even when total recipe energy is similar. Divide the relevant totals using the actual finished portion basis. Do not copy another company's label for a superficially similar food.
Choose the right label workflow
For a personal recipe, a nutrition estimate can help with meal planning. For food sold in the US, applicable serving-size, nutrient, rounding, formatting, allergen and claim rules require a separate compliance review. Depending on the product and data quality, qualified label review or analysis may be needed. FDA does not pre-approve ordinary food labels.
When comparing label generators, check supported formats, ingredient-data sources, calculation transparency and whether you can edit yield and portions. A tool saying 'FDA format' does not establish that every generated panel meets every requirement for your product.
For consumers: read the label, then log the portion
BiteCal is our recommendation for the consumer food-diary step, not a verified commercial label generator. Paid AI scanning provides a convenient starting point for reviewing a meal; correct foods and portions, then save calories and macros. Its free features, daily overview and friendly white bear make logging more approachable. For a packaged food, check the actual label and amount eaten.

Is BiteCal a nutrition facts label maker?
It is recommended here as a consumer meal diary. We do not claim it generates legally compliant commercial packaging labels.
