Glass Noodles vs Rice Noodles: Dry Weight, Calories & Portions

·

For the two Shan’shi products below, the manufacturer lists 360 kcal per 100 g glass noodles and 361 kcal per 100 g rice noodles on the packaged-product basis. Their nearly equal energy does not make a cooked bowl identical: dry amount, absorbed water, sauce and toppings still matter. Compare dry with dry, then log the share of the cooked batch you eat.

Compare the same market, brand and weight basis

This example uses Shan’shi’s Austrian English product pages for Glass Noodles and Rice Noodles, checked October 23, 2026. The manufacturer lists average values per 100 g. Use these packaged dry-product references with your matching package; they are not universal values for every glass noodle or every rice noodle.

The selected glass noodle label gives 90 g carbohydrate and 0 g protein per 100 g; the rice noodle label gives 81 g carbohydrate and 7 g protein. Those are specific product references, not proof that all rice noodles contain the same protein. Glass noodles can use different starches, and the ingredient list on your package is the relevant identity check.

Convert a dry amount into a cooked-batch share

A hypothetical 50 g dry portion of the selected glass noodles contributes 180 kcal; 50 g of the selected rice noodles contributes 180.5 kcal. If that 50 g dry glass-noodle batch happens to weigh 150 g after cooking in water, eating half the finished batch represents 25 g dry equivalent and 90 kcal before additions. The 150 g yield is an example, not a fixed cooking conversion.

Record the dry batch weight, cooked drained batch weight and cooked amount eaten when you need a repeatable conversion. Water contributes weight; it does not turn the original dry portion into a different quantity of noodle solids. A generic cooked-noodle entry may assume a different water yield, so do not combine its value with the dry weight.

Count the rest of the noodle dish with BiteCal

Oil, stir-fry sauce, broth, meat and vegetables need their own entries or a complete matching recipe. A plain noodle comparison cannot settle the calorie total of a restaurant pad Thai or a glass-noodle salad. Keep leftovers and shared portions in the calculation rather than treating the whole serving dish as one personal meal.

We recommend BiteCal for starting a mixed-meal diary from a photo, then reviewing the food and portion assumptions before saving. Keep the package or batch notes nearby for corrections. BiteCal’s AI scanning is paid; free features let you explore the app before deciding whether that scanning workflow fits your routine.
