How Many Calories Should Lunch Be?

·

Lunch calories should fit your daily needs, work routine and appetite. Instead of choosing a universal lunch limit, decide how lunch fits alongside breakfast, dinner and snacks, then review the portion you actually eat.

Daily scenario2,000 kcal

Use lunch to support the afternoon

A lunch that is too small for your routine may be difficult to sustain. Start with a meal you enjoy and check its protein, portions and energy. A hypothetical 2,000 kcal day could allocate 600 kcal to lunch while reserving 1,400 kcal for the rest.

That split is a planning example and does not tell you whether 2,000 kcal meets your needs.

Check restaurant and packed-lunch differences

A packed sandwich can differ from a restaurant version because of bread size, spreads and sides. Use an exact label or restaurant reference when available. BiteCal can help record a photo-based estimate when manual entry gets in the way; inspect fillings and drinks before saving.
