How to Track Alcohol Calories and Macros
·
Alcohol contributes about 7 kcal per gram and should not disappear from a food log because it is not protein, fat or carbohydrate. Record the drink’s total calories and add mixers separately when needed.
A practical example
| Check | How to apply it |
|---|---|
| Alcohol component | 14 g × 7 ≈ 98 kcal |
| Mixer | Add the actual mixer quantity |
| Serving | Check glass size and product strength |
Calculate what the drink actually contains
A hypothetical drink with 14 g ethanol contributes about 98 kcal from alcohol alone. Sugar, juice, cream and other ingredients can add more. A menu glass may differ from the serving used in a database entry.
Do not classify alcohol as zero energy or replace its calorie value with zero carbohydrate.
Keep estimates honest when details are missing
Use the manufacturer or restaurant serving where available. For an unknown cocktail, log a clearly marked estimate and list known ingredients rather than claiming exact macros. BiteCal photo estimates also need review because alcohol content is not visible in an image.
