How to Track Macros on Keto Without Mixing Carb Definitions
·
For keto-style tracking, first define whether your plan uses total or net carbohydrate. Then log protein, fat and energy with the same serving basis. A low carbohydrate number does not automatically establish nutritional adequacy or a calorie deficit.
A practical example
| Check | How to apply it |
|---|---|
| Label | Read total carbohydrate and fibre |
| Calculation | State the net-carb method |
| Meal | Include oils, cheese, dressings and drinks |
Define the carbohydrate calculation
For a food with 12 g total carbohydrate and 5 g fibre, a fibre-only subtraction gives 7 g net carbohydrate. Products with sugar alcohols require additional rules. Keep those rules consistent across the day and do not use general app calculations for medication dosing.
Match actual products rather than selecting whichever search result shows the smallest carb value.
Count additions that mainly supply fat
Oil, butter, cheese and creamy sauces can add energy without much carbohydrate. Check their portions rather than assuming they are unlimited. The BiteCal macro calculator is a general planning tool; it does not prescribe a therapeutic ketogenic diet.
