Vegan Macros: Build a Protein Plan Without a Perfect Ratio
·
Calculate calories and protein first, then distribute the remaining energy between carbohydrate and fat around foods you enjoy. A vegan diet does not require a single macro ratio. Food variety and micronutrient planning still matter beyond the macro totals.
A practical example
| Check | How to apply it |
|---|---|
| Protein scenario | 70 kg × 1.6 = 112 g/day |
| Portion match | Choose cooked or dry database entries correctly |
| Beyond macros | Review variety and micronutrient coverage |
Anchor meals with recognizable protein foods
Tofu, tempeh, beans, lentils and appropriately chosen fortified products can play different roles in a day. Read the actual label: a tofu block and a soy drink are not interchangeable gram for gram. For a 70 kg exercise scenario at 1.6 g/kg, the arithmetic gives 112 g protein daily.
That example is a planning factor, not a personal prescription. Spread the target across realistic meals before adding supplements.
Review the whole pattern
A macro app cannot establish micronutrient adequacy from three totals. Review nutrients such as vitamin B12 with appropriate dietary guidance. In the log, distinguish cooked lentils from dry weight and include oils or sauces used in preparation.
