How to Count Calories When Eating Out

·

Use the restaurant’s matching current nutrition information when available. Otherwise make a clearly labelled estimate, include sauces, sides and drinks, and avoid treating a photo as an exact ingredient measurement.

A practical example

CheckHow to apply it
Best matchCurrent exact menu item and size
AdditionsDrinks, sauces, toppings and sides
FallbackA reviewed estimate when exact data is unavailable

Match the full order and serving

A sandwich entry may or may not include cheese, dressing or a side. A pizza listing can describe one slice or a whole pie. Check the wording before adding quantities.

BiteCal’s restaurant calculators keep each secondary reference’s serving description. Different markets and older products may appear, so confirm the exact item rather than assuming a match from the brand name alone.

Use a practical fallback for independent restaurants

Describe visible components and review likely cooking fat or sauces. A photo estimate in BiteCal is useful when building a meal manually would be inconvenient, but it should remain an estimate. One restaurant meal does not require compensatory restriction the following day.
